How To Clean Your Air Conditioner

Air Conditioner Installation Charlotte County, FL

Living in SWFL means that having an air conditioner is a must. Keeping your a/c running smoothly is of high importance to your comfort in day to day living. Maintaining your air conditioning system is essential to keeping your system running smoothly throughout the often unpredictable Southwest Florida weather. A good periodic cleaning will help your system keep performing at its best so it’s there for you, when you need it most.

Here are some tips to help you clean your system.

The first thing you’ll want to do is locate the outdoor compressor/condenser. This is usually a large metal box that sits outside your home, near the sidewalk or street.

Once you’ve found the unit, you’ll want to give it a good visual inspection. If there’s any debris or leaves around the unit, remove them. Also, check to see if the fins on the unit are bent. If they are, you can use a fin comb to straighten them out.

Next, you’ll want to clean the air conditioner coils. These are located inside the unit (you may need to remove a panel to access them). The coils can be cleaned with a special coil cleaning solution, which can be found at most hardware stores. Be sure to follow the directions on the cleaner carefully.

After the coils have been cleaned, you’ll want to replace your air filter. This is located inside the air conditioner unit as well. You’ll want to check your air conditioner’s manual to see what type of filter it uses, as they can vary. Once you’ve found the right filter, install it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

That’s it! By following these simple steps, you can keep your air conditioner unit clean and running smoothly.
